Tanzania is an East African country known for its vast wilderness areas. They include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino).
Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa and includes the spice islands of Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia. It is a country known for its exotic wildlife and ancient tribes and is a regular destination for many travellers. It is also one of the most popular volunteering destinations chosen by gap year travellers and backpackers due to its fascinating abundance of wildlife and thrilling activities.
Tanzania has the largest concentration of animals per square kilometre, in the world. It is a country known for its vast wilderness areas with 30% of the country’s area occupied with National Parks including 12 national parks, 13 nature reserves and 38 protected areas.
Tanzania is home to Africa’s highest point – Mt Kilimanjaro – a 5,895 meter high snow-capped dormant volcano as well as the world’s largest volcanic crater – Ngorongoro Crater – with a diameter of 19km and a depth of 600m.
The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater offer good wildlife viewing throughout the year. June and July are the best months for seeing the migration and February is the best month for the wildebeest calving.
